Yes! We at Lithium Bros understand the importance of battery safety, that’s why we exlusively use only “Lithium Iron Phosphate” based lithium batteries, cardinally different than the Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer batteries we often hear about exploding and catching fire in laptops and mobile phones. LifePo4 batteries are not only safer than all other lithium types but are safer then all other types of batteries including Lead Acid.
Why?
They are simply incombustible, even when exposed to extreme temperatures or short circuits, they wont explode or catch fire. Unlike Lead based and other lithium chemistries they don’t contain lead, harmful acids, nickel oxide, don’t vent hydrogen during charging, are non-toxic and don’t leak. They are also completely recyclable and last at least 5000 cycles, compare that to lead acid cells which only last 300-400 cycles. Lifepo4 batteries are not only safe but also much better for the environment.
Cycle Life:
Don’t you hate when you a buy a new cellphone and a year later you seem to always need a charger handy? Batteries get degraded during use, every time they’re discharged and charged up again they lose some of their ability to retain a charge. Let’s look at AGM, discharging to 50% capacity (the maximum recommended for such a chemistry) will yield you roughly 550 cycles. For lithium an 80% depth of discharge will still provide 2000-4000 cycles of use! An average of 5 times the cycles for 30% more power!
Depth of discharge:
An AGM cell can only provide roughly half of its capacity due to the depth of discharge it can sustain without significant voltage drop and damage to the cell. Lithium cells can provide at least 80% of its capacity and with a much straighter discharge curve. A 200ah lithium cell will give you roughly 160 amps of use, AGM only 100 and with a much steeper discharge voltage curve, this means electronics may shut down due to voltage drop even before the battery is completely drained. Think of a vehicle where the headlights might turn on but the battery doesn’t have enough charge to start the vehicle. On paper they might both have the same amount of power, but in reality lithium surpasses lead-acid in virtually all real life scenarios.
Energy Density/Charge rate:
Lithium charges faster and retains that charge longer and more efficiently. If you have 1000w solar charger unit installed, after that power is stored in a AGM battery only 80-85% is available for use (850-850watts). Lithium on the other hand is over 95% efficient minimizing losses and providing over 950 watts in the same scenario. Lithium also has an unbelievable energy density, especially when compared to lead acid. This means for the same power, you take up less physical space and carry much less weight (Typically half).
